Two weeks have passed since our big adventure. I have finally come down from the high of a fantastic weekend. And so we bring this series to a close with photos of our trek with Bougainville Travel, across the Lycian Way at Patara. You can read more about the history of the Lycian Way -... Continue Reading →
Terry & Baris’ Big Weekend Adventure – Day 2 Cont’d
Our story continues from our day of kayaking. You will recall that our group had piled into the minivan, worn and tired and happy from our day on the sea. The van gently rocked us into deep reflection as we nodded off to sleep. Suddenly, the van stopped abruptly and I saw a police car... Continue Reading →
The Big Cliff(hanger)
For those of you who have been following Terry & Baris' Big Weekend Adventure in Kaş, you will remember that we left you with a bit of a cliffhanger: Lunch was the perfect end to a perfect afternoon. On the ride back, the group was happy, calm, and tired. I couldn’t wait to get back to... Continue Reading →
“Junking”
It's an interesting thing that in this land of great history, there is little room for "junking." Junking is a term I recently picked up from my niece. That's her way of describing her love of antiques, or anything else that can be picked up at a flea market or yard sale. I honestly can't... Continue Reading →
Mystery of the Traveling Tupperware
Have you ever stopped and wondered where your things have been or where they have gone? Many years ago, I stumbled upon an antiuque chest of drawers with mirror attached. I believed it was from the 1920's. I had to have that chest. I saw it at a one-day flea market, and I returned to... Continue Reading →
Ho-hum . . . How to Get Rid of the Winter Blues in Ankara
Now that we are in the heart of winter and all the “good” holidays have passed, i.e. Bayram, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, our thoughts turn to “what to do now”? For many people, winter is a dark and lonely time of year, especially for those inflicted with SADS (Seasonal Affective Disorder). For expats, winter... Continue Reading →

"All time" is a little loose. I am coming up on my 2-year anniversary of the blog in April. So today I sat down at took a look at my stats. There have been almost 53,000 views of my blog since its inception. Wow. I know that some of them may include automatic spammers, but most are... Continue Reading →
Keeping Up Appearances
Turkish Ladies seem to take their personal appearance much more seriously than I do. Of course, this doesn't apply to all Turkish women. But from my experience, most will not go out of the house will unless they are "done up." Their clothes are clean and always pressed. No holes - not even in fashionable... Continue Reading →
Yalikavak – Back to the Bodrum Peninsula
While on vacation, we had several opportunities to visit Yalıkavak. Yalıkavak is a bit larger than the village of Gümüşlük, and not nearly as big and commercial as Bodrum. Yalıkavak is super cute! The beaches are small, but great. Restaurants on the beach allow visitors to use their lounge chairs free of charge. Be careful if you... Continue Reading →
You know you’re from (insert here) when . . .
I admit it, I am a Facebook junkie. I love the feeling of keeping in touch with family and friends from afar. I especially love chatting with grade school and high school friends as if our relationships never fell apart. Today, I saw two groups that I loved . . . "You know you're from West... I Love July!!!
I have never understood why people complain about birthdays or give the standard, "I don't really celebrate birthdays." It's a bunch of hogwash to me. I love birthdays. The only thing I love more than birthdays is MY birthday! And tomorrow is just that. A few days ago I received an email from my husband wishing... Continue Reading →

Yep, it's only been 3.5 months, but I'm heading back to the States. This time I have some business to tend to, but will visiting my family for the most part. Once again, as I anticipate my departure, I am salivating over thoughts of food. Yes, pork is at the top of my list: bacon,... Continue Reading →
Miss Me Yet?
I know, I know. It seems like a week since I have written a post! In my defense, I did add a new page to my blog this week about things for kids to do in Ankara. It didn't appear as a post, so you may have missed it. It has been quite a busy... Continue Reading →
