I love gardening! I LOVE GARDENING!
In Turkey, it’s easy to find certain vegetables when in season. They are usually cheap and readily available at all markets and pazars. But still, there is nothing like a vegetable herb grown in your garden and hand-picked for your meal.

I don’t have a garden space in Ankara, but I manage to make do with my small balconies. I also bring seeds back from my travels to the States and Germany. Last year I grew poblano peppers – something I have never seen in Turkey!
Today, I checked out the The Old Farmer’s Almanac online. It’s an American favorite. Sometimes I still miss flipping through the book. But online, one can customize a planting chart by typing in your location. It will even email planting reminders if you wish. The chart shows time to sow seeds indoors and outdoors and when to harvest. Click on this link to see for yourself!

In Ankara, January and February is the time to start seeds indoors for:
- Beans
- Summer Cabbage
- Cauliflower
- Cucumber
- Kale
- Leek
- Lettuce
- Okra
- Onion
- Peas
- Pepper
- Pumpkin
- Spinach
- Swiss Chard
- Tomatoes
It also time to sow seeds outdoors (directly into the ground – not in pots) for:
- Beans
- Beet root
- Cabbage
- Cauliflower

- Cucumber
- Kale
- Leek
- Lettuce
- Onion

. . at this rate you’ll be motivating me!
I know the baking didn’t get you . . . I thought this might! 🙂
This is great! Thank you. Better get started on my pumpkin.
Long and good lists..Thanks..But,spinach is in pots for eating? I dont think so:)
That’s just to start the seeds, Sinan, then you replant them outdoors. Spinach can be grown in pots – but it doesn’t give a big yield.
