Did you know that in Turkey, you can go to the local bakery (bread baker, not the pastry maker) and buy a ball of dough? Then you can use it for your own yummy creations. Yesterday I made strombolis!
Obviously, I am no expert. But they sure were yummy! I sauteed red peppers, onions, and mushrooms, added ground beef, tomato paste, herbs, garlic, and of course – cheeses!
My favorite spot charges the same price for the dough as a fully baked loaf, 0.70TL (about 40¢.) For these, I actually used the thinner, smaller loave. They are a bit more dense, like French bread. I used 2 for each boli. But I think I would only use one ball of dough if I tried it with the regular loaf (which I consider more Italian style bread.)
You may also be able to buy dough at the Pide/Lamacun restaurants. It’s worth a try. I know people that make their own Lamacun topping and then take it to the restaurant to bake it!
