Open Air Cinema – Hot Fun in the Summertime!

CerModern boasts an Open Air Theatre and is showing international films every Tuesday night, 26 June through September 25, 2012.  Last night we saw Burn After Reading, starring Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and John Malkovich.

Yeah, it’s hot.  It’s pretty, pretty, pretty hot.  But being outdoors in the Summertime is all I want from life.  The movie was just a bonus for me.

CerModern, of course, is a lovely backdrop.  Chairs are set up and tickets are limited to 500 – purchased at the entrance.  Last night, we got there early and handheld fans were being distributed.  I had actually remembered to bring my own.

A table was also set up with drinks, snacks, and sandwiches for purchase.  The restaurant was also open for those who wanted a full meal before the show.

There were two negatives to the evening – although they certainly did not ruin my night.  First, the films were scheduled to start at 8:30.  (This seems to change on the website).  By 9 p.m., they were still fumbling with the projectors.  This is typical Turkish – nothing starts on time.

Second, it was a smoke fest.  Smokers in front of me, smokers behind me.  Smokers to the left of me . . . Let’s just say, I am happy I brought my own fan.  It was much larger and did the trick when it came to keeping the smoke out of our faces.

One more note – CerModern’s website and staff can be unreliable.  So don’t be surprised if you get there and find another film showing than you had expected.  A couple of weeks ago we planned to see Date Night on July 17.  As the time came closer, we noticed the English side of the website still had it, but the Turkish side moved it to August.  We called and they said they forgot to update the English side.   Yesterday, the schedule showed in both Turkish and English, that Date Night was shown on July 17th.  Today it’s back to August.  So who knows?!

It’s all about being outdoors anyway and enjoying the moonlight.
