Restaurants Suggested by Fellow Expats in Ankara

This is a list of restaurants that I have not personally tried or reviewed for the most part.  There are a few exceptions.  To see the restaurants I have reviewed, click herePlease email me at info.adventuresinankara@gmail.com  if you have a recommendation! Afiyet Olsun!

First, our friend Kurt sends this article from the New York times for Ankara’s “bon voyants”:  In Ankara, Turkey, New Restaurants Enliven the Diplomatic AreaThanks for sharing!

Japanese/Thai/Chinese/Asian:

  • Sushisu
    www.sushisu.com.tr
“The flavours are really authentic, the restaurant atmosphere is peaceful and the kitchen is clean. I went there recently for a birthday party and they prepared these huge platters of cucumber sushi which were absolutely amazing. The platters were a work of art; I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so beautiful.  The founder of the restaurant, Gamze, speaks native-like English and is warm and welcoming. There is an outside area (nicely landscaped) with tables that look perfect for a beer and appetizers. The restaurant is located next to Mina Sera, just take the small road before you get to the AVM entrance and you’ll see the chinese lanterns.”

  • Makkarna – I have tried this restaurant, loved it, and will review it one day soon!

“Jazz and rhythm/blues were on the sound system. There is seating for 24 inside and seating for 8 in the outdoor patio area.” “The place is owned by two nutritionists.  Their menu is really good and reasonably priced.  Along with the healthy snacks in the menu, they also have soup and the dish of the day.  All of the items are carefully selected to follow a healthy diet.  They also have catering services and are willing to put together a special menu for those who have to follow custom dietary habits.”

  1. I am in heaven reading your blog! Since my husband is Turkish I haven’t met any expats, it is so nice to see that they do exist!
For brunch I must recommend Pelit. It is my favorite brunch spot!! It is about 45 Lira for one, but is well worth it. It is located by the JW Marriott. They also make the most amazing custom cakes! They is a bakery side and a restaurant side. The website is http://www.pelit.com.tr/

  2. Unfortunately Apinya Thai has closed at the end of 2013, bringing the total number of Thai restaurants in Ankara to… zero! 😦
